On Friday, September 11, 2026, the European basketball champions, Olympiacos Piraeus, were received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The delegation, including general manager Nikos Lepeniotis, head coach Georgios Bartzokas, and captain Kostas Papanikolaou, presented the President with signed commemorative jerseys celebrating their EuroLeague and Greek championship titles. During the meeting, President Christodoulides openly declared himself a proud supporter of the club.
The team’s visit coincides with their participation in the annual "Neophytos Chandriotis" international basketball tournament, held from September 11 to 13 at the Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria stadium. Other teams competing in the event include Red Star, Aris Thessaloniki, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The tournament schedule began on Friday with a match between Olympiacos and Red Star, which President Christodoulides attended in person. During the reception, the President highlighted government investments of approximately 17 million euros in sports infrastructure, noting that such upgrades have allowed Cyprus to host major international basketball events. The tournament continues through Sunday, featuring further matchups between the participating clubs.
