Paphos Chamber of Commerce meets new Environment Commissioner to discuss infrastructure

On September 10, 2026, the Board of Directors of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBE Paphos) held a meeting with the new Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Ilias Myrianthous, at the Chamber’s offices. The meeting was led by the President of EBE Paphos, Giorgos Mais, and focused on aligning environmental protection with the sustainable development of the Paphos district.

A primary topic of discussion was the long-delayed completion of the new road to Paphos Airport, which remains stalled due to environmental concerns raised by state departments and various environmental organizations. During the meeting, Commissioner Myrianthous noted that approximately 80% of the environmental issues currently affecting Cyprus are located within the Paphos region. He emphasized the necessity of bridging the gap between bureaucratic environmental requirements and the region's urgent developmental needs.

Following the discussion, the parties pledged to maintain close cooperation to address the various infrastructure and environmental challenges that have persisted for years. The Chamber expressed hope that Myrianthous, being a local of the province, would be instrumental in navigating these complex issues to facilitate project progress.
