Court to rule on prima facie case against Giorgos Christodoulou-Zavrantonas

On September 11, 2026, the Nicosia Criminal Court concluded the submission of closing arguments regarding the prima facie case against Giorgos Christodoulou, known as "Zavrantonas." The defendant is accused of involvement in a case concerning the possession of 15 kilograms of cocaine with the intent to supply. Prosecutor Vasilis Bisas, representing the Republic, confirmed that the prosecution has finished calling witnesses and has filed its written arguments.

Defense lawyer Christos Poutziouris argued that his client should not be called to testify, claiming that the evidence provided, particularly the testimony of key prosecution witness Giannis Andreou (known as "Maronas"), is contradictory and legally insufficient. Poutziouris contended that the court must dismiss the case now rather than waiting for a final assessment of witness credibility. The court has scheduled its decision on whether a prima facie case has been established for October 16. If the court finds sufficient evidence, the trial will proceed with the defense presenting its witnesses; otherwise, the defendant will be discharged and released.
