Nicosia concludes initial public consultations on new local plan
Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos announced the conclusion of two public consultations regarding the city's new local plan, held at the Melina Merkouri Hall and the Agios Dometios Municipal Amphitheater as of September 11, 2026. The sessions were designed to prioritize citizen input, with over two and a half hours dedicated to public feedback in each event, while consultant presentations were limited to 20 minutes.
Mayor Prountzos described the consultations as productive, emphasizing the importance of recording and filming all proceedings to ensure transparency. He stressed that the municipal administration is actively seeking to expand participation, particularly among the youth, noting that high levels of civic engagement reflect a healthy society. The consultations served as a democratic platform for both individuals and organized groups to present their views on the city's development.
While the current phase of formal public consultation meetings has concluded, the municipality continues to facilitate channels for further input. The process is intended to incorporate diverse viewpoints into the final local plan, ensuring that the development strategy for the capital reflects the needs and perspectives of its residents.
