Cyprus commemorates the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

On September 11, 2026, Cyprus commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. A solemn ceremony was held at the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, attended by Cypriot officials, including Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, and U.S. Ambassador John Breslow.

During the event, Minister Kombos paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims who perished in the attacks. In his public statement, he reaffirmed Nicosia's commitment to the values of peace, freedom, and human dignity, emphasizing that terrorism remains a borderless threat requiring continued international resolve. Ambassador Breslow also reflected on the significance of the day, stating that the victims would never be forgotten.

Minister Kombos highlighted that the strategic relationship between Cyprus and the United States remains a top priority for his government. He expressed Cyprus's readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, describing the partnership with Washington as a strategic choice in the country’s foreign policy framework.
