Israeli airstrikes in Gaza kill Hamas commander and civilian family

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, an Israeli airstrike in the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of a man, his wife, and their two daughters, aged 8 and 12. While the Israeli military did not immediately comment on that specific incident, they confirmed on Friday that a separate strike conducted on Thursday killed Mohammed Abdel Salam al-Yazouri, a senior Hamas commander allegedly involved in planning the October 7, 2023, attacks. Hamas' armed wing acknowledged al-Yazouri’s death, adding that two other commanders were also killed in the operation.

The strikes occurred amidst an ongoing military escalation despite an October 2025 US-backed ceasefire intended to halt large-scale hostilities. According to Gaza health officials, over 1,300 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began, while the Israeli military reports the loss of four soldiers.
