Mayor of Limassol presents climate neutrality plan for 2030

On September 11, 2026, the Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeutis, presented the city's strategy for achieving climate neutrality by 2030 during a conference organized by the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy, and Water (RAAEY) at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF).

Key initiatives outlined in the plan include the establishment of a Climate Transition Office and a city climate contract, which aim to integrate environmental policy across all aspects of urban development. Planned projects encompass the creation of green corridors, the development of a metropolitan park, and the connection of the city center with the port. Additionally, the Mayor emphasized coastal protection measures, the promotion of sustainable mobility, increased tree planting, and the enhancement of public shading. To address industrial emissions, the administration plans to utilize energy communities and adopt cold ironing technology at the port.

This presentation aligns with the city's broader goal of transitioning to a more sustainable and resilient urban model, emphasizing that climate policy must be a horizontal priority in city operations. The strategic framework focuses on the long-term transformation of Limassol's infrastructure and the active engagement of both public and private resources to ensure future sustainability.
