Anorthosis blocked from using stadium giant screens for APOEL match

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA/KOP) has denied a request from Anorthosis Famagusta to use its newly installed giant screens at the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium to broadcast live footage and match replays during the upcoming derby against APOEL. Scheduled for September 12, 2026, as part of the third round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, the match will proceed without the use of the screens for match coverage due to regulatory restrictions.

The association cited Article 19 of the Championship Proclamation, which explicitly prohibits the broadcasting or retransmission of live match footage or highlights on stadium screens. While Anorthosis expressed significant dissatisfaction, arguing that such technology is standard in modern European stadiums and represents a major investment, the current regulations remain binding. The club views the ban as an unnecessary obstacle to enhancing the spectator experience.

Anorthosis officials have announced their intention to pursue the matter further, seeking a compromise with the governing body to allow for the utilization of their technological equipment in future matches. As of now, the decision stands, and the club is exploring potential avenues to address the restrictive provisions within the league's framework.
