FIFA denies final decision on 2030 World Cup host stadium

The host venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final remains undecided, despite claims from the President of the Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, that the match would be held in Benslimane, Morocco. Lekjaa stated that the region would host the final at the future Hassan II Stadium, a facility currently under construction with an estimated capacity of 115,000 spectators and a cost of 12 billion dollars.

In response to these comments, FIFA officials reiterated that no final decision has been reached, stating that a conclusion regarding the venue will be made in due course. The organization previously dismissed reports in August 2026 that President Gianni Infantino had guaranteed the final to Morocco. Spain is also competing to host the match, leveraging the prestige of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.

The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, with additional matches scheduled in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. Following the controversy, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch reportedly criticized Lekjaa for announcing the venue prematurely, emphasizing that the official decision rests solely with FIFA.
