Funeral arrangements and public vigil for singer Giorgos Mazonakis

The renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who died at the age of 54 on September 9, 2026, following a cardiac arrest at the Stem Cell private clinic, will be laid to rest on Monday, September 14, 2026. A public vigil is being held at the Holy Trinity Church in Nikaia, the singer’s birthplace, starting at 19:30 on September 13 and lasting until the early hours of Monday morning to allow fans and friends to pay their respects.

Initially, confusion arose regarding the accessibility of the funeral service due to conflicting reports about it being held in a private circle. However, family lawyer Charalampos Lykoudis clarified that the funeral service at the Holy Trinity Church on Monday at 13:00 will be open to the public, while the actual burial at the Third Cemetery of Athens will remain a strictly private family affair. The family has requested that, in lieu of wreaths, donations be made to the charity Humanity Greece.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the singer's death. Recent reports indicate that the two doctors present at the clinic at the time of the incident have been summoned to testify, and investigators are looking into potential efforts to alter evidence regarding the 84-minute period between his medical procedure and the arrival of emergency services.
