Funeral arrangements announced for singer Giorgos Mazonakis

The funeral for popular Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis will be held on Monday at 13:00 at the Agia Triada Church in Nikaia. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the Third Cemetery of Athens. Mazonakis passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after suffering a heart attack at the Stem Cell private medical center, after which he was transported to Elpis Hospital, where his death was confirmed.

As announced by his family, a public vigil will take place on Sunday, September 13, at the Agia Triada Church, the singer's local parish in Nikaia. The public will be allowed to pay their final respects starting from 19:30 until the early hours of Monday morning. The choice of Nikaia for the funeral holds significant symbolic weight, as the artist was born and raised there and frequently spoke with pride about his working-class roots in his interviews and music.
