Public vigil and funeral arrangements for singer Giorgos Mazonakis
The body of renowned Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who passed away on September 9 at the age of 54, was placed at the Church of Agia Triada in Nikaia for a public vigil starting on the evening of September 13. Thousands of fans gathered to honor the artist in his home neighborhood, where his casket arrived amidst sustained applause and singing of his most famous songs.
Initially, the family requested a private funeral, but later clarified through their lawyer, Haralampos Lykoudis, that the funeral service scheduled for Monday, September 14, at 13:00 at the Agia Triada Church would be open to the public. The subsequent burial will take place in a strictly private family setting at the Third Cemetery of Athens. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked mourners to donate to the organization Humanity Greece.
