Man in critical condition following explosion in Sotira

A 30-year-old foreign national is in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital after an explosive device detonated inside a metal garage in the municipality of Sotira on Friday, September 11, 2026. Emergency services were alerted to the blast around 9:20 p.m. The man, who is known to local authorities for previous criminal involvement, suffered severe injuries to his entire body and underwent an amputation of his hand during surgery at Famagusta General Hospital before being transferred to Nicosia for specialized care.
