Prisoner escapes from Serres hospital following armed operation

A 41-year-old Albanian inmate, serving time for drug-related offenses and homicide, escaped from the Serres General Hospital in Greece on the night of September 11, 2026. The prisoner had been transported to the medical facility shortly after 11:00 PM following complaints of feeling unwell. Upon arrival, he was intercepted by accomplices who had disguised themselves as police officers from the special OPKE unit.

The suspects successfully disarmed the guards accompanying the prisoner, reportedly utilizing Kalashnikov rifles to threaten the staff and seize control of the transport vehicle. After disarming the personnel and taking their weapons, the group fled the scene with the prisoner. Greek authorities have currently launched a major manhunt to locate the fugitive and the perpetrators involved in the daring operation.
