Cabinet approves relocation of pig farms in Kato Moni

The Cyprus Council of Ministers has approved a plan to relocate the fattening units of two pig farms in the community of Kato Moni. The move, scheduled to be completed within the next two years, aims to address the long-standing issue of odor and public disturbance that has affected local residents for decades.

Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, Ilias Myrianthous, announced the decision on behalf of President Nikos Christodoulides during an event on Friday evening. The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment developed the plan in close coordination with the community and the affected pig farmers. Myrianthous stated that the relocation represents a significant step toward improving the daily life and quality of life for the residents of the village.

While the relocation is expected to noticeably reduce the nuisance, authorities noted that the situation will remain under monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of the intervention. This measure serves as a definitive step to resolve a problem that has persisted for decades in the area, marking a major policy shift regarding local agricultural management and environmental protection.
