Cyprus approves establishment of trade center in Mumbai

The Cyprus Council of Ministers officially approved a proposal from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry to establish a new trade center in Mumbai, India. This decision follows a commitment made by President Nikos Christodoulides during his official state visit to India in May 2026, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic and commercial relations.

The new facility will operate as an economic arm of the Republic of Cyprus, functioning under the administrative umbrella of the High Commission in New Delhi while strictly adhering to the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The center will focus on promoting Cypriot products and services, boosting exports, facilitating business collaborations, and attracting foreign investment from India to Cyprus. Its reach is expected to extend to other countries within the accreditation region of the High Commission.

This initiative serves as a strategic extension of the existing trade center in New Delhi, designed to enhance the presence of Cyprus in one of India's primary financial hubs. The move is a key component of the broader Strategic Partnership between Cyprus and India, signaling a deepened commitment to long-term commercial integration between the two nations.
