Ypsonas parents' associations cancel scheduled student strike
The Coordinating Committee of the Public School Parents' Associations of Ypsonas announced on September 12, 2026, the cancellation of a student strike that was planned for Monday, September 14. This decision follows a meeting held on Friday afternoon at the Apostolos Loukas Lyceum in Kolossi, where parent representatives met with the Ministry of Education's Directors of Primary and Secondary Education, Marios Stylianides and George Koutsidis.
The strike was called off after the Ministry provided written assurances regarding the parents' demands. Specifically, the Technical Services of the Ministry certified that the modular classrooms in the area have been repaired and are safe for student use. Furthermore, the Fire Department conducted an inspection and officially approved the safety of the school facilities, including the modular units. The Ministry has also agreed to provide additional clarifications requested by the parents in a revised document.
The official, updated letter outlining these commitments is expected to be sent to the Coordinating Committee on Monday. With these safety and procedural concerns addressed, the planned school protest has been officially suspended, allowing for the normal continuation of classes.
