Cyprus municipal authorities implement security measures to curb vandalism

Following a strategic meeting held on August 27 at the Paphos Town Hall, municipal authorities across the district have begun implementing measures to combat rising vandalism and delinquency in public spaces. Deputy Mayor of Yeroskipou, Andreas Siikkis, recently toured the municipality to evaluate infrastructure and is preparing a proposal for the City Council to install a network of security cameras, supported by specialized technical and legal studies.

Efforts are being coordinated among the municipalities of Paphos, Yeroskipou, Akamas, and Polis Chrysochous to align their actions with national legislation. The acting Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, confirmed that 55 cameras are already operational in Paphos, with state authorities having pre-approved the installation of an additional 60 units. These initiatives aim to deter criminal activity and assist authorities in identifying perpetrators as part of a broader district-wide strategy to restore public safety.
