Medical clinic owners arrested following death of Giorgos Mazonakis
Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, owners of the Stem Cell clinic in Kolonaki, were arrested following the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, who suffered cardiac arrest and passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The duo faces charges of lethal exposure in connection with the incident, which occurred during a visit to their facility.
Testimonies from other patients have emerged, painting a disturbing picture of the clinic’s practices. Witnesses allege that Theodoropoulos frequently expressed contempt for conventional medicine, claiming he was second only to God in his healing abilities. A witness recounted that the doctor proposed unconventional treatments for aggressive breast cancer, such as colon cleanses and vitamin supplements, charging as much as 3,000 euros. These accounts describe a pattern of behavior where the doctor sought to erode patient trust in established medical protocols in favor of his own methods.
The investigation into the clinic’s operations is currently ongoing. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of Mazonakis and the efficacy, legality, and ethics of the treatments offered at the Stem Cell clinic.
