Construction worker dies in fatal electrocution accident in Peyia

A fatal workplace accident occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a construction site on Kokkinokampou Street in Peyia, Paphos. The victim was 52-year-old Konstantinos Posnagkov, a Georgian national and resident of Paphos who held a Greek passport. He lost his life after being electrocuted during concrete pouring operations.

According to police reports, the accident was caused by the incorrect handling of a concrete pump arm, which severed two overhead electricity cables carrying 11,000 volts from the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). Despite being transported to Paphos General Hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The scene was secured by authorities, and investigations are ongoing involving the police, the Department of Labour Inspection, and the EAC.

Following initial inquiries into the circumstances, police have arrested two individuals: a 46-year-old contractor and a 53-year-old Greek-Cypriot pump operator. The suspects are being investigated for potential charges related to death caused by reckless, negligent, or dangerous acts. The investigation into the exact conditions of the accident is currently underway.
