Fatal workplace accident at a construction site in Peyia

A fatal workplace accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2026, at a construction site on Kokkinokampos Street in Peyia, Paphos. The victim was 52-year-old Konstantinos Posnagkov, a Georgia-born resident of Paphos who held a Greek passport. The incident took place around 2:30 PM while workers were pouring ready-mix concrete. According to initial investigations, the operator of the concrete pump incorrectly maneuvered the machine's boom, which struck and severed two 11,000-volt overhead electricity cables belonging to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The resulting electric shock proved fatal for the worker, who was rushed to Paphos General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Following the tragedy, local authorities cordoned off the site and launched a joint investigation involving the Police, the Department of Labour Inspection, and the EAC. In connection with the incident, the police arrested two individuals: a 46-year-old site contractor and the 53-year-old concrete pump operator. Both men are currently being held under court warrants while they face investigation for causing death through reckless, negligent, or dangerous acts. The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident remains ongoing.
