36-year-old fined 13,500 euros for poaching in Larnaca

On September 8, 2026, members of the Anti-Poaching Unit of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit discovered an illegal bird-trapping operation in a fenced field within the Larnaca district. Authorities found 17 wild birds trapped in five separate nets, along with an electronic device used to play imitation bird calls. The live birds were promptly released back into their natural habitat by the officers.

Following an investigation conducted by the Kofinou Regional Police Station in cooperation with the Game and Fauna Service, it was determined that a 36-year-old man was responsible for managing the site. On September 12, 2026, upon the conclusion of the case proceedings, police issued the man an out-of-court payment notice totaling 13,500 euros. This penalty was applied in accordance with established national legislation governing the protection and management of wild birds and game.
