Cyprus Police conduct nationwide preventive security operations

Overnight on September 13, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of coordinated, nationwide preventive operations aimed at maintaining public order and increasing safety. The authorities focused on urban areas, conducting rigorous checks on both vehicles and commercial premises to deter criminal activity.

During the operations, police stopped and inspected 1,001 vehicles and checked 1,310 individuals. A total of six arrests were made for offenses including drug possession, illegal stay in the Republic, and driving under the influence of alcohol. Traffic enforcement was a significant component of the operation, resulting in 308 citations, 158 of which were for speeding, and 25 for driving while intoxicated. Furthermore, 10 vehicles were impounded, and 10 additional traffic cases are currently under investigation. Police also inspected 49 business premises, issuing eight reports for various violations.

These actions follow a strategic effort to curb delinquency through increased patrols and high-visibility police presence in critical urban locations. The investigation into the recorded traffic violations and the cases involving the arrested individuals remains ongoing.
