Cyprus Police conduct nationwide enforcement operations

Cypriot police forces conducted nationwide preventive operations overnight on September 13, 2026, targeting criminal activity and traffic violations to enhance public safety. The coordinated effort involved checks across major urban centers.

During these operations, officers stopped 1,001 vehicles and checked 1,310 individuals, resulting in six arrests for various offenses including drug possession, illegal residency, and driving under the influence. Law enforcement also inspected 49 premises, leading to eight violations being filed. In total, 308 traffic tickets were issued, including 158 citations for speeding and 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, 10 vehicles were impounded for further investigation, and 10 criminal cases related to traffic violations were initiated. Authorities conducted 259 breathalyzer tests, while a single drug test performed on a driver yielded a negative result.

The initiative was part of a broader, ongoing strategy to maintain public order and deter serious criminal behavior. The police continue to evaluate the data collected during these nightly checks as part of their routine enforcement program.
