Cyprus police conduct nationwide anti-crime operations

Between September 13 and 16, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of organized, nationwide operations aimed at preventing serious crime, ensuring public order, and increasing public safety. These operations focused on key urban areas through intensive patrolling, vehicle inspections, and checks on commercial premises.

The scale of police activity varied daily. For instance, on the night of September 13, authorities stopped 1,001 vehicles and checked 1,310 individuals, resulting in 6 arrests and 308 traffic citations. By the night of September 14, reports indicated 14 arrests with 545 vehicles stopped. On September 15, operations led to 7 arrests, with 460 drivers and 109 passengers checked, alongside 304 traffic citations. The final reported operation on September 16 saw 5 arrests, with 535 vehicles stopped and 339 traffic citations issued, including 98 for speeding and 6 for drunk driving.

Offenses cited throughout these operations included illegal residence, possession of narcotics, theft, illegal property possession, and various traffic violations such as speeding and driving under the influence. In total, dozens of vehicles were seized, and hundreds of alcohol and drug tests were performed. The police confirmed that these preventive measures are ongoing to maintain safety across the island.
