Police conduct series of preventative operations across Cyprus

Over the course of three nights between September 13 and September 15, 2026, the Cyprus Police carried out widespread preventative operations and patrols across urban areas to enhance public order and safety. During these operations, officers stopped hundreds of vehicles, conducted numerous site inspections, and performed alcohol and drug tests. The enforcement actions resulted in dozens of arrests for various offenses, including illegal residence, drug possession, drink-driving, illegal assembly, and theft of property, while hundreds of traffic violations were recorded.

On the night of September 13, police arrested six individuals after checking 1,001 vehicles and 1,310 people, leading to 308 traffic citations. By the night of September 14, operations led to 14 arrests with 545 vehicles stopped and 365 traffic violations noted. Finally, on September 15, seven more people were arrested, and 304 traffic citations were issued after police stopped 460 drivers and 109 passengers. In total, dozens of vehicles were impounded throughout these consecutive nights of heightened police presence, which authorities stated are part of an ongoing effort to combat criminality.
