Cyprus government unveils new housing initiatives to support young families

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides announced two new housing schemes aimed at increasing available living space for young people and families. The government has invested over €300 million in residential projects, leading to the addition of more than 5,500 new housing units to the market. The first initiative allows families to utilize existing property to construct additional residences for their children or grandchildren, even if the building density coefficient has been reached. The second scheme provides 570 state-owned plots of land, available at 25% of their market value, to assist young families.

Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou highlighted the success of expedited licensing processes, noting that over 3,700 single and multi-family units were licensed within a few months, potentially accelerating market entry by a year and a half. Additionally, over the next three years, incentive plans and 'built to rent' schemes are expected to deliver more than 4,100 residential units. These measures aim to mitigate the ongoing housing crisis through private-sector cooperation and increased housing stock.
