Cyprus government unveils new housing initiatives to support young families

On Sunday, President Nikos Christodoulides announced two new housing schemes aimed at supporting young people and families in Cyprus. The government has invested over €300 million into housing policies, contributing to the addition of more than 5,500 new residential units to the market. The first initiative allows families to use existing property to construct additional residences for children or grandchildren, even in cases where the building coefficient has already been exhausted. The second scheme focuses on utilizing state-owned plots for the benefit of young families.

Simultaneously, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou highlighted progress in urban planning incentives and the "Built to Rent" program, which are expected to add over 4,100 housing units over the next three years. Of these, 1,142 will be designated for affordable purchase or rent. Furthermore, authorities are advancing a project to build 460 affordable homes on state land. Government efforts have also prioritized rapid licensing, with 2,533 single or double-unit homes and 1,242 apartment complexes receiving permits within shortened timeframes, potentially accelerating the market entry of 15,000 units by approximately 18 months.
