Two tragic accidents reported on Cyprus

On September 12, 2026, two separate fatal incidents occurred in Cyprus. In the afternoon, a 52-year-old worker of Georgian origin with a Greek passport died from an electric shock at a construction site in Pegeia, Paphos, after a concrete pump arm struck power lines. Paphos police have subsequently arrested a 46-year-old contractor and a 53-year-old pump operator in connection with the workplace accident.

Separately, on the same evening, a 4-year-old boy fell to his death from the sixth-floor balcony of an apartment building on Dimitri Mitropoulou Street in the Engomi area of Nicosia. The fall occurred from a height of approximately 20 meters. Reports regarding the circumstances of the child's death differ slightly between sources: one report suggests the boy died instantly, while another notes he was transported to the Nicosia hospital trauma unit in critical condition before passing away. The family, reportedly of African descent, was home at the time with the victim's younger sibling. Authorities are currently investigating the specific circumstances of the fall.
