Cyprus government calls for renewed efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the Cypriot Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, delivered a speech on behalf of President Nikos Christodoulides during the 'Remembrance Day of Occupied Acheritou.' During the event, Koumis emphasized the necessity for the international community and the European Union to actively support the end of the occupation of a member state. He urged Turkey to abandon positions that deviate from the agreed-upon framework for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

Koumis further demanded full cooperation from Turkey regarding the identification of the fate of all missing persons, labeling this an obligation to both the families involved and humanity.
