Limassol mourns the loss of Andreas Laos

Limassol is mourning the death of Andreas Laos, a prominent local figure who contributed significantly to the city's social, political, economic, and cultural life. The news of his passing was officially confirmed on September 13, 2026, prompting expressions of grief from local authorities, including the Mayor and the Limassol Municipal Council.

Laos was a self-made individual who held several key positions throughout his life. He served as a Municipal Councilor representing AKEL and was active in the Saint Nicholas district. In the business sector, he founded the Laos Bros industry and served as the Vice President of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His commitment to education and culture was evident through his tenure on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) and his involvement in the university's Student Welfare Committee. Furthermore, he remained an active board member of the Pattichion Municipal Museum, Historical Archive, and Research Center of Limassol until his final days.

Known for his collaborative spirit and humble nature, Laos was also recognized for his participation in the resistance movement between 1971 and 1974. The Limassol Municipality has extended its formal condolences to his wife Niki, as well as his children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family.
