Over 200 dangerous buildings identified in Paphos district

Authorities in the Paphos district have identified 226 dilapidated or dangerous buildings, with the highest concentration located within the Paphos Municipality. This assessment follows increased scrutiny on building safety after a recent tragedy in Limassol. Charalambos Pittokopitis, president of the Paphos District Local Government Organisation (DLGO), confirmed that 70 apartment blocks have been officially declared dangerous, 11 of which are in critical condition.

The DLGO has initiated emergency measures for the three most hazardous structures, including posting formal notices prohibiting occupancy to ensure public safety. Owners and managers of two of these buildings have proactively started repair work to mitigate risks and restore safety standards. The DLGO’s Licensing Department is currently reviewing the technical evidence submitted by these owners.

Once the review process concludes, the DLGO plans to consult with legal advisors to determine the next steps for managing these properties and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The authorities emphasize that these efforts are part of a broader, months-long initiative to prevent further structural collapses in the region.
