Former deputy attorney-general Loukis Loucaides faces charges in Limassol

Former deputy attorney-general and European Court of Human Rights judge, Loukis Loucaides, appeared before the Limassol permanent criminal court on September 14, 2026. The 87-year-old faces two criminal charges: theft by proxy and money laundering. The case stems from a complaint filed in July 2025 by the administrator of a deceased woman’s estate, who alleges that Loucaides failed to transfer €177,108.12 received from the Limassol municipality as compensation for the expropriation of her property.

During the proceedings, defense attorney Christos Pourgourides requested additional time to respond to the charges, noting that a formal application has been submitted to Attorney-General George Savvides to transfer the trial to a district court. The court granted the delay and rescheduled the hearing for October 20, 2026. As a condition for his release, the court ordered Loucaides to sign a personal bond of €50,000.
