Paralympic swimmer Charalampos Taiganidis to attempt open-sea record for charity

On Friday, September 18, 2026, Paralympic gold medalist Charalampos Taiganidis will attempt to break the world open-sea swimming record by covering a distance of 151 kilometers. The route spans from Coral Bay in Paphos to Larnaca. This endurance challenge is a personal endeavor for the athlete, who aims to support the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF).

Taiganidis will perform the swim without any aids, remaining in the water continuously throughout the journey. He will maintain no physical contact with the escort boat or his support team, adhering to strict rules of individual endurance. The athlete describes the effort as a method to redefine his personal limits and support those battling cancer.

This event follows a similar achievement from the previous year, when Taiganidis successfully completed a 149-kilometer swim. His current goal of 151 kilometers represents an increase in distance and a continuation of his commitment to the charitable work of PASYKAF.
