Petros Papadopoulos appointed as head of new human rights group within DISY
On September 14, 2026, the Democratic Rally party (DISY) in Cyprus officially announced the establishment of a new Human Rights Policy Production Group. Lawyer Petros Papadopoulos has been appointed as the Commissioner Coordinator of this body, a decision made by DISY President Annita Demetriou.
The committee is tasked with formulating and implementing strategic policies concerning contemporary social issues and human rights. In his public statement, Papadopoulos acknowledged the significant responsibility of the role and expressed his intention to collaborate closely with key party figures, including Deputy President Efthymios Diplaros and Secretary of Political Modernization Xenia Constantinou. The team will also feature Euro Christodoulou, Maria Theodorou, and Dina Hasapi, whom Papadopoulos identified as the driving force behind the group's future operations.
This appointment is part of a broader organizational restructuring within the party, aimed at strengthening its influence on social issues and enhancing its legislative and advocacy capabilities. The group is expected to position itself at the forefront of human rights defense in Cyprus, focusing on targeted policy initiatives under the current party leadership.
