Cyprus revises artist registry and subsidy bill

The Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Commissioner for Legislation, is currently revising the "Artist Registry and Artistic Subsidy Law of 2025." The objective is to create a modern framework that establishes the professional and social status of artists, with a goal to finalize the new legislative draft by the end of 2026.

Following a series of consultations, a key decision was reached during an expanded working meeting on September 4, 2026. Participants, including Deputy Minister Klea Papaellina and representatives from various artistic sectors, agreed to completely remove the second part of the draft, which concerned subsidies for self-employed artists, as it was deemed inadequate for the community's needs. The revision process, which intensified this summer, incorporates feedback from organized artistic groups and input from international policy experts from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Ireland.
