Fifty-two years later, the fate of missing persons in Cyprus remains unresolved

Fifty-two years after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the fate of 760 individuals remains unknown out of the original 1,619 missing persons. Presidential Commissioner Marios Hartsiotis reported that while 46 sites were excavated in 2026, ongoing efforts continue to face significant obstacles due to a lack of cooperation from the occupying forces. The government now plans to appeal to European institutions regarding blocked access to sensitive sites, such as the area in Dikomo where remains were allegedly disturbed.
