Police unions hold talks with Minister of Justice on legislative amendments

On September 14, 2026, representatives from the Cyprus Police Association (SAK) and the Isotita union met with the Minister of Justice to discuss comprehensive amendments to the Police Law. The meeting, described as constructive, focused on modernizing the legal framework governing police operations and personnel rights. Key proposals included the regulation of public holidays, compensation for overtime work between 14:30 and 17:00, and the reinstatement of the '11–37' shift schedule to its original format.

Additional topics addressed during the session included hazard pay allowances for station and branch commanders. Both parties agreed to continue a series of consultative meetings to evaluate all aspects of these proposals before drafting final legislation for submission to the House of Representatives. The police leadership plans to monitor the progress of these discussions closely to ensure their demands regarding labor conditions and legal protections are addressed in the final amendment package.
