Weather in Cyprus to turn unstable with rain and storms expected later this week

Cyprus is currently experiencing the effects of a seasonal low-pressure system, resulting in generally clear skies with occasional clouds. However, meteorological forecasts indicate a significant shift in weather patterns starting Thursday, September 17, 2026. A barometric low centered south of Crete is moving northeast, bringing a period of instability to the island.

Beginning Thursday, the weather will become partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected in the afternoon, particularly in mountainous regions and parts of the interior. Conditions are forecast to deteriorate further on Friday, with more widespread local rain and thunderstorms. Authorities have noted that some storms could be strong, with a potential for hail and increased wind speeds, especially in the Paphos district and surrounding coastal areas. Consequently, temperatures are expected to drop, falling below average seasonal levels by Friday before a slight recovery on Saturday.
