PASYKAF launches HPV vaccination awareness campaign in Cyprus

The Pancyprian Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF) has launched an awareness campaign regarding the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, running from September 14 to September 27, 2026. The initiative, themed "Protect your child's tomorrow today. Vaccinate them on time," aims to encourage parents to consult with pediatricians about the importance of early immunization at the start of the new school year.

In Cyprus, the HPV vaccine is fully covered by the General Healthcare System (GeSY) for both boys and girls aged 9 to 18 years and 11 months. The required dosage depends on the age at which vaccination begins: children aged 9 to 14 require two doses, while those starting the series between age 15 and 18 require three doses. Georgia Orfanou, Director of Prevention and Social Marketing at PASYKAF, emphasized that the vaccine is a vital preventive measure against several forms of cancer and severe illnesses associated with the virus.

Parents are advised to contact their children's pediatricians to schedule the vaccinations and receive appropriate medical guidance. The campaign serves as a timely reminder of the availability and benefits of the vaccine, which is readily accessible through the national health system.
