Nea Salamina files official complaint regarding refereeing in AEL Limassol match

Nea Salamina Famagusta has officially lodged a formal complaint regarding the officiating during their third-round match against AEL Limassol, which took place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Alphamega Stadium. The club has filed a complaint against match referee Konstantinos Fotiou and VAR official Andreas Tsambalas, citing both serious refereeing errors and inappropriate conduct.

Club spokesperson Loizos Moiseos stated that the club is not attempting to mask their own performance issues, but rather address specific technical errors that affected the match. Furthermore, the club accused referee Fotiou of demonstrating ironic and threatening behavior toward the club president, Paris Andreou, following the conclusion of the game. The club characterizes this conduct as unacceptable and contrary to professional standards.

Nea Salamina maintains that VAR should serve as a supportive tool rather than a mechanism to excuse poor performance. The club has submitted these formal grievances to the competent authorities, requesting an investigation into the conduct of the match officials. As of now, the club awaits further action from the disciplinary bodies regarding these allegations.
