Christodoulos Makris presents DIAL project at SARDAM festival in Limassol

The experimental poetry project DIAL, created by poet Christodoulos Makris, is being presented in Limassol as part of the SARDAM festival. Following successful exhibitions and performances in Dublin and New York, the project arrives in Cyprus to challenge traditional definitions of poetry by incorporating performance, sound, and visual elements.

Developed since 2021 in collaboration with Diatribe Records and musicians Joanna Mattrey and Keith Lindsay, DIAL explores poetry beyond the printed page. Makris argues that while labeling experimental art can create restrictive expectations, it also serves as a gateway for audiences to engage with interdisciplinary works on their own terms. The project functions as both a literary work and a semi-permanent visual exhibition, emphasizing that poetry is an evolving medium that can be transformed through interference and public space.

Makris continues to address the recurring question of whether experimental works constitute poetry, suggesting that the medium's strength lies in its ability to resist singular definitions. The presentation in Limassol highlights a broader trend in experimental literature that seeks to break boundaries between text, sound, and visual art.
