Cyprus health ministry investigates unauthorized medical center for illegal plasmapheresis

The Cyprus Ministry of Health has officially reported a medical center in Larnaca to the police following a surprise inspection conducted on Friday, September 11, 2026. The facility is under investigation for performing medical procedures, specifically plasmapheresis, without the necessary authorization. This marks the third time authorities have taken action against the establishment, which previously drew scrutiny in 2022 and 2023 for similar unauthorized practices.

Public interest in the center intensified following the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis and reports of a woman hospitalized after receiving unauthorized treatment at the same location. It was revealed that the facility previously suffered a bombing in 2024 and reopened under new branding, despite lacking proper licenses. The ministry has now ordered the center to suspend all operations related to the suspected medical activities.

Senior Ministry of Health official Karolina Stylianou confirmed that investigators are looking into potential violations of legislation regarding private clinics and medical equipment. The case is currently subject to an active police investigation to determine the extent of the illegal operations.
