Series of wildfire incidents reported across Paphos district

On September 15 and 16, 2026, the Paphos district in Cyprus faced multiple wildfire incidents. A fire initially broke out near Latsi, requiring support from the Forestry Department. Subsequently, a significant fire occurred near the community of Yiolou, necessitating both ground crews and aerial support to contain the flames near residential areas. By the afternoon of September 16, this blaze was reported as extinguished.

Simultaneously, a separate fire near the quarries in the Androlikou community triggered the 'Astrapi' emergency plan at 15:30 on September 16. A coordinated effort involving 23 Forestry Department personnel, nine firefighters, and five aircraft successfully contained the fire within one hour, limiting the damage to five donums of low vegetation. Later that evening, another fire was reported in a difficult-to-access ravine in the Droushia community, prompting an immediate mobilization of additional Forestry and Fire Service units.

Authorities are currently investigating the causes of these fires. No injuries have been reported, and operations are ongoing as teams continue to monitor affected areas to prevent further flare-ups.
