Series of wildfires contained in Paphos district

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, authorities in the Paphos district of Cyprus responded to multiple wildfire outbreaks. A significant fire occurred near the community of Androlikou, which was reported at 15:30 and contained by 16:30 after burning five donums of wild vegetation. The operation involved 23 forestry department personnel, nine firefighters, and five aircraft under the 'Astrapi' emergency plan.

Later in the evening, another fire was reported in a ravine at the 'Monastiria' area of Droushia. Firefighting teams faced challenges due to darkness and the steep terrain, requiring crews to remain on-site overnight to monitor the area for flare-ups. While authorities have confirmed these incidents, reports from Cyprus Times indicate a total of seven separate fires occurred throughout the day within the Droushia-Prodromi-Skoulli triangle, leading officials to express concern regarding potential malicious activity.

Investigations into the causes of these fires are ongoing. Separately, the fire service reported two vehicle fires in other districts on the same day: one in Kato Moni (Nicosia) and one in Xylofagou (Famagusta), which were unrelated to the Paphos wildfire incidents.
