Pentagon report confirms ammunition shortages due to Iran conflict

A new report from the Pentagon’s Inspector General, released on Monday, September 14, 2026, officially acknowledges that United States military operations against Iran, codenamed "Operation Epic Fury," have caused significant shortages in strategic ammunition reserves. This admission directly contradicts months of public denials by the Trump administration, during which President Donald Trump repeatedly claimed that the country possessed virtually unlimited ammunition supplies.

The report, covering the period from April to June, highlights systemic issues within the defense industrial base regarding rapid replenishment capabilities. In addition to missile constraints, the document lists equipment losses including four F-15 fighter jets, thirty unmanned aerial systems, one F-35 fighter, and seven aerial refueling aircraft. While the government previously dismissed press reports of usage restrictions on interceptor missiles in June, the Pentagon now confirms that measures have been initiated to accelerate production to address these logistical vulnerabilities.
