Laiki Bank depositors association expresses frustration over lack of 2026 payout

The Association of Laiki Bank Depositors (SYKALA) has expressed strong dissatisfaction following the announcement that there will be no significant second payout from the Solidarity Fund in 2026. This decision contradicts previous assurances given to the association by President Nikos Christodoulides, who had personally promised that a 2026 distribution plan would be implemented after Finance Minister Makis Keravnos initially suggested it would not occur.

During the most recent meeting of the Solidarity Fund Committee, officials clarified that no new allocation is planned. The only remaining distribution will involve the residual balance from the 2025 plan, after accounting for outstanding claims. It is estimated that this remaining amount will be minimal, ranging between zero and 2.5% of the total hair-cut value suffered by each individual depositor. SYKALA characterizes this development as a breach of government commitments and emphasizes that this residual payment cannot be considered a genuine second installment.

The situation remains tense as the association views these developments as a failure to honor formal agreements with victims of the 2013 banking crisis. No further official meetings or remedial actions were reported following the committee's update.
