European project SAFEHOST launched to combat gender-based violence in hospitality

The European project titled 'SAFEHOST: Enhancing Early GBV Detection in the Hospitality Sector' has been launched to equip hotel staff with the skills necessary to identify and report incidents of gender-based violence. The initiative involves the Larnaka Tourism Board (ETAP Larnaka) alongside partner organizations from four other European countries: Greece, Italy, Spain, and Denmark. The project is funded by the European Union’s CERV program.

The core of the initiative focuses on developing comprehensive training programs, formal cooperation protocols, and a multilingual digital application. These tools are designed to empower frontline staff, who frequently interact with travelers and guests in unfamiliar environments, to act as a vital link in the protection chain. By providing professionals with the capability to recognize warning signs early, the project aims to facilitate safe referrals for individuals requiring support, thereby enhancing the security of vulnerable guests within the hospitality sector.
