Cyprus wholesale trade sees growth while motor vehicle sector declines

The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released data on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, showing divergent trends in the Cypriot market for the second quarter of 2026. The wholesale trade turnover value index recorded a significant annual increase of 17.8%, while the index for the sale and repair of motor vehicles experienced a decline of 2.5% compared to the same period in 2025.

Within the wholesale sector, growth was uneven, with other specialised wholesale categories showing a sharp jump of 45.3% in the second quarter. Furthermore, wholesale trade on a fee or contract basis grew by 28.1%, while wholesale household goods saw a 12.6% increase. Over the first six months of 2026, the overall wholesale sector grew by 14.6%, whereas the motor vehicle sales and repair industry saw a cumulative decline of 3.1% compared to the first half of 2025.

These figures highlight a contrast between the expansion of broader wholesale activities and the weakening performance of the automotive retail and maintenance industry throughout the first half of the year.
