Cyprus and UK hold maritime talks in London

Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis and British Shipping Minister Keir Mather met in London on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The meeting served to outline the next steps for the agreement, which was originally signed in February 2023 to foster cooperation between the two nations' maritime administrations. The discussions covered key issues including maritime safety, decarbonization, seafarer welfare, digital security, and the regulation of global shipping challenges.

The visit, which took place from September 13 to 15, also included participation in the 18th Annual Capital Link Shipping and Marine Services Forum. Alongside industry leader Dr. Nikolas Tsakos, the ministers took part in a panel discussion regarding government-industry synergy to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of global shipping. During her visit, Hadjimanolis promoted Cyprus as a stable, globally recognized maritime hub, emphasizing the strength of the country’s ship registry and its broader maritime ecosystem. The bilateral commitment aims to deepen technical collaboration through expert exchanges, workshops, and joint training initiatives within international bodies such as the International Maritime Organisation.
