Cypriot cyclist Andreas Theodorou wins Borovets Open Downhill Cup 2026

Cypriot mountain biker and coach Andreas Theodorou achieved a major international victory by winning the Elite Men category and the overall classification at the UCI Borovets Open Downhill Cup 2026 in Bulgaria. The event, which took place from September 11 to 13, 2026, in the Borovets mountains, featured a highly competitive field of over 200 athletes from at least five different countries. Theodorou secured the gold by recording the fastest time of the entire competition on a technically demanding course.

Theodorou's success marks a significant career milestone for the 33-year-old athlete, who has been instrumental in the development of mountain biking in Cyprus. Starting his journey as a youth influenced by family cycling trips, he faced significant obstacles in his early career due to a lack of local infrastructure and specialized equipment in Cyprus.
